Do you know what your options are if you have been hit by a car as a pedestrian? If not, you should. Many people in the Riverside area are hit by cars every year, and the individuals who survive are often severely injured and saddled with medical bills. While some people may think they have no choice but to find a way to pay down their debt, that is not always true. Pedestrian accident victims should know that California personal injury laws exist to protect them if they are injured by a negligent driver.
A recent situation that may warrant the consideration of a personal injury claim left five individuals injured after they were hit by a car. The accident happened in San Jacinto on Sanderson Avenue. Several members were traveling in two vehicles when an item fell out of one of the cars. That car stopped to collect the item, and the second vehicle pulled over to assist. Unfortunately, an approaching vehicle did not see that they had stopped.
The oncoming car crashed into the stopped cars, hitting five members of the family in the process. While it is certainly fortunate that everyone survived the crash, four people suffered broken bones and one was severely injured. So far, police have noted that neither drugs nor alcohol seems to have contributed to the crash.
As we mentioned earlier, Riverside-area residents who have found themselves in this unfortunate situation have the option to file a personal injury lawsuit. By working with an attorney and other car accident experts, a victim can work to prove to a court that a driver was negligent when he or she caused a collision. If the lawsuit is successful, a victim could be awarded compensation for medical expenses and other damages, allowing him or her to focus on getting well rather than worrying about finances.
